Redwolf and Smith co-sing every line in stacked octaves and harmonies, creating a unified vocal identity that blurs the boundary between the collaborators individual performance and shared voice.
Smith’s syncopated guitar riff serves as the foundation while Redwolf's Cumbia inspired drumming create a whole sonic world. The duo borrow the opening lyric: “Leave my soul in the heart of the country” from a McCartney track title sheet found on the wall of White Star Sound (Louisa VA).
Virginia-based fiddle player Julia Kwolyk translates a hummed melody by Redwolf while adding emotive string work and ethereal vocal textures. Casey Wayne McAllister contributes organ and spoken-word improvisation on creativity which was later woven into the track’s atmospheric bridge.
Custom cover art by Richmond’s Hannah Bashkow and Gabriéle Price carries the same deliberate visual storytelling as the song itself.

Leave my soul in the heart of the country
shattered rock gently hold me
Ramble on you long hair lady
Don’t you know the river run
I don’t talk but I am thinking
I am called the silent man
Though none around can hear me
They all know who i am
Dusk and dawn and sun and moon and light and dark and night and day
Escape me
Pain and joy and life and death and rain and drought and birth and grave
haunt me
I am used to feeling hungry
I do not fear the maker's hand
When my bones begin to quiver
I make my home inside the sand
My teeth are tangled in the earth
Passing clouds above me hover
A thousands times I’ve met the reaper
I’ve never known the setting sun
Dusk and dawn and sun and moon and light and dark and night and day
Escape me
Pain and joy and life and death and rain and drought and birth and grave
haunt me
Don't you know the river run
Don’t you know the river run
Redclay man, dust in hand
Silent one speaks again
Storm off in the distance
A hundred mile resistance
Endurance and persistence
the river run
Don't you know the river run
Don’t you know the river run
Don't you know the river run
Don’t you know the river run
